Detailed day by day information
Budapest and Košice
The Danube Express awaits you at Budapest Nyugati station for a mid-morning departure. After a champagne reception in the Royal Waiting Room, you are shown to your accommodation. Sit back and make yourself comfortable in the lounge car as you travel north towards Slovakia across the Great Hungarian Plain and alongside the Matra Mountains. A delicious, freshly prepared lunch is served in the restaurant car before arrival in Košice. There is a guided walk through Slovakia’s second city, the highlight being the enchanting Singing Fountain. In the evening the train continues on past the Tatra Mountains en route to the Czech Republic.

Prague and Carlsbad
Morning sees arrival in the fabulous city of Prague, known as the “City of a Hundred Spires”. Its medieval centre, cobbled streets and vibrant contemporary culture are sure to captivate. A guided tour of the highlights includes St Vitus’ Cathedral, Hradčany Castle and the Charles Bridge. During lunch, the Danube Express heads west to the Bohemian city of Carlsbad. Here you discover the hot springs and extensive colonnades which have made this city famous. Relax in the lounge car before dinner as the journey continues onto Germany.

Dresden and Berlin
Wake as the train travels through the spectacular Elbe Gorge past Königstein Fortress and the Bastei. Arriving in Dresden, a guided tour explores this restored city, including the Zwinger Palace and Semper Opera House with pride of place given to the Frauenkirche, completed only recently. Lunch is back on board before late afternoon arrival at Berlin Ost station and bidding ‘farewell’ to the Danube Express.
