The Royal Gorge Route

Offering up to 4-daily departures
Welcome aboard the Historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad, considered to be one of the most scenic train rides in the world. The train takes you on a 24-mile journey through the 1,000 foot deep Royal Gorge, alongside the raging Arkansas River, where you'll have the opportunity to observe Bald Eagles, Blue Heron, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer, and flora, native to the gorge. We've combined a Colorado nature show with classes of service and comfort for every budget from Coach to glass topped Vista Domes, Gourmet Lunch, Four course Dinner, Murder Mystery, and Winemaker's Dinner Trains. It's no wonder that visitors from around the world make the Royal Gorge Route Railroad their first stop when visiting Colorado. Trains depart up to 4-times daily at: 9:30, 12:30, 3:30 and 7:00 pm (dinner, murder mystery and winemaker's dinner trains).

Brief route history
The Royal Gorge Route Railroad offers the best experience of the Royal Gorge on a breathtaking, 2-hour scenic and historic train ride on the most famous portion of the former Denver & Rio Grande Western train line. All passengers have access to one of our open-air observation cars for the best views of the Royal Gorge. Reservations are recommended by calling 1.800.717.0108 or by making an online reservation now. To find the train depot, turn south on 3rd Street from Highway 50 in Canon City. This will bring you to the historic Santa Fe Depot and the Gateway to the Royal Gorge. When you're ready to experience the best the Royal Gorge has to offer, you ride the train.

Talk to someone who has ridden the Royal Gorge Route Railroad through the Royal Gorge and you're likely to hear the same comments time and time again from: "This railroad is breathtaking" or "There is no better way to experience the Royal Gorge" to simply "WOW!" We provide the only year round access on a 24-mile journey through this natural wonder. The ribbon of rail takes passengers on an up close and personal nature show deep in the canyon. An interesting history began 126 years ago and continues today on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad.
